So I chatted to friends online about that poor sad dirty urban hardpan that could be a beautiful little herb garden:
and to the right hand side of the walk, there's an 8 x 10 lower level filled with dirty scraps of gravel, cigarette butts and weeds, but I did find two horseradish plants and some volunteer onions in there.
So Bev says she'll ship me some herb plants, another friend is sending seeds, and this morning I picked up a pamphlet from the city of Marysville offices, that tells me where people can take railroad ties and other landscaping debris for recycling--so maybe I can reverse recycle and get some raised-beds materials for free!
Then the nice lady with the computer shop next door says she and her family want to clean up a spot in the alley (other side of that wall you see in the pic) as a community service project, I will take the dead Christmas tree laying there in the truck today, and there's broken bricks that can be put into the garden area, and soon the alley will look neater and cleaner for sure.
I bet if I put a note on the counter that we'd love to adopt any herb plants that people don't want or are dividing, we can maybe get a couple more additions for that ugly little spot, and with a little paint, some wood benches I have at home already, a birdbath (there are TONS of little sparrows here), I'm hoping to show you a picture in a couple of weeks of a lovely peaceful sitting-spot that will be appealing to the farmer's market visitors as well as folks who use Gus's back door, and my own customers.
Tomorrow is the first day of farmer's market in the back parking lot here, so I'm going to open at 7 a.m. at the back door so folks can get to our two restrooms, Gus opens at 8 and I open at 8, but I know when you get up silly early you drink coffee and then you need, um, a restroom! Gotta remember to check tonight when I leave that they are restocked properly and neat enough "for company," hee hee.
Lining up teachers for classes, still looking for local eggs and honey and catnip and dog biscuits, learning to use Facebook Plain Andpractical with husband as my good instructor, and working on this pinwheel quilt today in-between chores and customers and phone calls:
It's all good. Struggled with the register this morning and finally did the sale with a calculator, was very embarrassed, but figured it out eventually by studying the manual and got it cleared off and ready for the next customer without too much trouble. God often allows me opportunities to be humbled and that's good for my soul, I know. Peace.
Looking better and better every day. Even the alley will look great between you all soon ! dee
