Arrival of the baby, 7:47 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 42 inches and maybe sixty pounds, in need of a bath (aren't all babies when they come to your home?) and some love and maybe some finishing work (she'll be a lovely young lady when she is finished with finishing school). This is Singer O. Hibbard, and if you can guess what the "O" in her middle initial is for, I'll give you a lollipop:
And tomorrow, am making girl scout uniforms for my little neighbor, who just joined, they got the fabric and are all excited about her being in a troop for the first time.
And tomorrow when I get done with that, I'll show you the little headcovering I found at a garage sale, am going to use it as a pattern and make some linen caps for around the house.
Had a funny leading the other day, next time Good Husband is out of town, I decided to wear a head covering to bed at night, since what do I do when he is far away in another city working? I wake a dozen times, listen or feel the other side of the bed for him, and remember he's away. Each time I say a prayer for his safety, of course, so why not have my cap on while doing so?
Ms. Singer was free, a gift from a friend, and I am planning to make them a nice quilt for this winter, as soon as The Baby is up and running, and can help me do that for those kind folks. I'll find out what year she was made, and pick a pattern that would have been around in that era for the midwestern U.S., and what colors, and go from there.
Prayer does work. Never forget that.
And at the Quilting group today, a woman came in and introduced herself as being the owner of that restaurant where we sat and sat and they wouldn't bring us menus. She asked for our forgiveness, mentioned that she had some staff issues, and we prayed together. That was an act I thought American Businesses had discarded, wanting the respect of their customers, so with prayer and His good guidance I will find a way to support her kind, brave act. May we all experience the power of Forgiveness this week, both in forgiving our trespasses, and those who trespass against us. It is a bathing in the waters of peace to do so.
Congratulations on your Baby!! You will have such fun! I love the hum of a Treadle....it's a soothing sound and I can't help but think of the women that have sewn clothing and quilts before me...
enjoy Valerie!
love, Donna

What a delight! I have always wanted a treadle machine, and recently started looking for one used. It is hard to find decent ones out here in AZ (more are around in the Midwest). Someday...though!
Congrats and enjoy working with this great machine.
I cannot guess what the "O" is for -- so I give in on that one!

The treadle is grand, but I was more excited about the restaurant owner!

Congratulations, what a beauty!! I'm hoping I can one day wangle my mom's old Singer treadle machine away from her, especially because she doesn't use it now that the motor went out (it's got the treadle, but underwent the electric conversion at some point in the past). Anyway, good luck! FYI - if that one has the bullet-shaped bobbin carrier, it's darn near impossible to find actual bobbins for it. Stores simply don't carry them anymore, but you might be able to find them online. And just as a tip, you might find it helpful to take off the treadle belt after a couple of weeks and tighten it, especially since you do a lot of sewing. It gets very frustrating when the belt slips. It also takes a little practice to get the hang of keeping the machine going forward and not accidentally flipping it to run backward, but be patient as I'm sure you'll do just fine. :D I do have to get to replying to your email...it's been absolute chaos here lately, but I haven't forgotten! Many hugs!!
