So, you remember when that tree fell on our house and truck in that big storm, and the landlord had it craned off the house and chopped up? Anyway, the stump grinder came and made a lovely mess on the lawn (Husband thought it was a mess) and I said, Yippee! Free Mulch for the garden area at the store! So husband and I shoveled it into the truck and I drove it up there and shoveled it out:
so the plan is, 1. Stop raining. 2. Clear the area by sections, scrape off cig butts and gravel, lay down pieces of barrier plastic cut to size, stake it, then cover with this mulchy stuff. 3. Then I can nest in pots of all kinds planted with herbs and other goodies, and Pat says she has a free bird bath on a stand I can place in the middle for our feathered friends out there. Making some wasp-bee catchers, last time the sun was out I was actually nervous about going out there, the little buzz buzzers were abundant (I carry a sting kit and that just helps me make it to the hospital, in a grand ol hurry, usually unconscious by the time I arrive).
So here's the whole area, going to make sketches and turn them in to the historical district folks:
See? lots of potential to be much, much nicer. Seriously much nicer.
Very quiet at the store today, been pouring rain, dark and cold, about 45-50 degrees. Wrote letters for farmers and teachers, reaching out to see who's next to come in the door and be a part of this wonderful thing--called and left a second message with the home extension office, emailed messages to "buy local" co-ops for more information, chatted with the Clintonville Market folks about more resources. Little by little, day by day, trying hard to grow this place bigger. Peace.
